Healthy Holiday Gifts for her: Healthy Gifts for Women in Their 50’s
Happy holidays!
I’m Alicia Jones and for almost 15 years now I’ve helped transform the health and lives of women over 50 through fitness and weight loss strategies and today we are going through my top 8 healthy holiday gifts to give yourself,
or healthy holiday gifts for her, the woman over 50.
These are my absolute favorite healthy gifts this year that I really think you should be pampering yourself with all of them too.
This video is all about the Healthy Gifts for Women in Their 50’s that:
- Help you sleep soundly through the night
- Bring simplicity and ease into a busy life
- alleviate tension and create relaxation
- makes life fun, fitness fun and wellness fun!
I’ll be going in order of most expensive to least expensive gift ideas.
Are you ready! Let’s get started:
1. ChiliSleep/Chili Pad:
The chili pad keeps your body at a perfect core temperature while you sleep, so you fall asleep faster, you sleep deeply and you feel more rested when you wake up in the morning.
If you wake up in the middle of the night:
- With hot flashes
- Drenched in sweat,
- feeling too hot
and you’re constantly pushing off the blankets while your husband keeps on piling them on (or vice versa), the chili pad reviews share that this product is a real game changer, touting it helps regulate temperature, reduces hot flashes and finally gives women over 50 a restful night’s sleep.
What I love about the chili pad is the “Me” versus “We” purchase options. You can have the pad for your side of the bed only or the “we” option covers the entire bed and has 2 control units for both you and your husband to adjust your side of the bed as you each prefer.
This product was recommended by an Over Fifty Fit & Fabulous alumni Kathryn, and is at the top of my healthy gifts for her list.
The con:
The device is filled with water and powered by electricity. This makes a very low hum noise. If you’re very sensitive to noise, instead of helping you sleep, it may wake you up.
2.Weighted Blanket
Weighted blankets are also touted as a wonderful addition to help you sleep soundly through the night. The blankets can be found on both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca
If you wake up in the middle of the night because you :
- Have restless legs/calf or toe cramps
- Your mind is racing
- you feel stress or anxious
The The blankets can weigh up to 20lbs and gently hugs the body, acting like a calming swaddle.
Some psychologists recommend these blankets to relieve anxiety, to help with insomnia and to help you sleep throughout the night.
This product was originally recommended to me by my one-on-one online fitness and weight loss client Carol she’s a client and an alumni of Over 50 Fit & Fabulous.
The Con:
If you have underlying breathing conditions such as sleep apnea, or you hate the idea of something heavy on top of you at night, then a weighted blanket won’t be the right fit for you.
3.Chef’s Plate
Who wants meal planning to be so much easier?
Who wants to be able to make a quick meal that doesn’t take up a lot of time and it tastes interesting?
I know i do! Yay !
That’s why Chef’s Plate is my number 3 healthy holiday gift for her.
- You don’t have to think about meal prep and what to cook
- It’s time efficient. You can cook the pre-prepped food quickly
- Have fun trying new foods and meals
Chef’s plate is a pre-prepped healthy meal delivery service.
Pick from an array of healthy meals.
The ingredients as well as a card with quick cooking instructions are dropped off to your home.
Everything is already cut, measured and prepped.
On the instruction card (as well as online before you choose your meail), you’ll see the level of cooking difficulty, how long it takes cook and the calories per serving.
This was recommended to me by my one-on-one client Kathie, and I love it.
The con:
If weight loss is on your healthy agenda, some of the meals are very high in calories.
This means that you’ll have to choose wisely, or use brain power to find supplements or changes to portion sizes (such as half a portion and a side salad) .
4.Online Fitness Training:
If you want personalized healthy gifts for women in their 50’s, then one-on-one online fitness coaching is the perfect fit.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had clients that have said “I have watched you for years, but I didn’t feel like I could justify the cost of getting you as my one-on-one personal trainer or my group coach.”
Christmas is the perfect time to giver yourself the gift of health, or if you feel you really can’t justify the cost, get your signficant other to gift it to you.
The Con:
If you have a trainer you don’t get along with, it has the opposite demotivating affect. That’s why I start each client with a FREE one-on-one strategy session, so we can both figure out if we’re a good fit.
5.Polar Beat Chest Strap
The Polar Beat Chest strap is a much more affordable version of an online fitness trainer, and can be purchased on both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca.
You wear a strap around the chest and connect then sync it to an app on your phone.
It shows your heart rate heart rate, plus it has a gps, so if you walk, you run, you can map your routes.
The app allows you to pick from a wide array activities such as aerobics classes or weight lifting, indoor cycling, outdoor cycling, abs workouts and so much more.
It not only keeps track of your heart rate, but after your workout is complete, it will give you encouraging feedback.
It also records your activity, the length you stayed in each heart rate zone and the dates you worked out.
The Con:
If you do outdoor activities, you’ll have to bring your phone with you. If you want your hands free cycling won’t be an issue because they have great phone holders for bikes. Yet, if you walk, or run, the phone straps that attach to your arm feels bulky and heavy. I hated this so much, I got rid of my arm strap. Instead I hold my phone in hand for my runs.
6.Naipo Massage Pillow
The Naipo massage pillow is so soothing. It’s ability to relieve tension and alleviate stiff muscles is like no other massage pillow I have ever owned. (and I own many)!
The coloured massage balls heat up, so it’s warming and relaxing after a long cold day.
This massager is gentle yet firm.
It gets deep into the layers of muscle but at the same time it doesn’t feel jolting or jarring like many massagers do.
One of my one-on-one clients Karen my client showed this pillow to me and I loved it so much I immediately went home after our session and I bought one for myself.
This product can be found on both amazon.ca and amazon.com
The Con:
The built in safety feature turns the massager off after a certain amount of time. This ensures the heated element doesn’t overheat, or burn you (especially if you relax into a deep sleep). While it makes sense to have this feature, it’s annoying when you need to get uncomfortable in order to turn the machine back on.
Also, while the amazon.ca has a soft, velvety cushion, the amazon.com version only has a vegan leather version (as far as I can see).
7. An Encouraging Water Bottle
You read correctly!
The 64 ounce encouraging water bottle is a fun and healthy gift for her that can be found on amazon.ca and amazon.com
As you sip water throughout your day you reach an encouraging message to keep you motivated to drink more water.
Not only does drinking your recommended amount of water help you stay hydrated, but it helps you feel full and eat less throughout your day.
This product was originally recommended to me by my one-on-one online fitness and weight loss client Carol she’s a client and an alumni of Over 50 Fit & Fabulous.
The Con:
This is meant more for cold or warm liquids, as it can’t be used for hot liquids. Also, it comes with a fruit diffuser for those that don’t like the taste of water, but when in, the diffuser may make the water bottle leak.
8. Toe Separators
Toe separators (found on both amazon.ca and amazon.com are fun little stocking stuffers that stretches out your toes and feet.
It’s a wonderful little gift if you:
- Feel tension or get cramps in your legs, toes or bottom of your feet
- Have plantar fasciitis
- Knee issues
- Have Bunions
and feels like a nice gentle stretch.
I’ll keep these separators in during some of my workouts when I’m finding it hard to keep my knees in alignment (knees knocking in may be a sign of a flat arch which may be corrected by working your foot and separating the toes.
I’ve also asked some of my clients to use these until they’ve got the hang of separating their toes, keeping knee alignment and keeping an arch in the bottom of the foot during certain exercises.
These are my personal recommendations. I am not affiliated with any of these products and I don’t receive commissions for any of these products.
All of these products were first recommended to me by one of the alumni inside of my signature program Over Fifty Fit & Fabulous, or by one of my one-on-one online fitness clients.
